Exeter is a city that knows how to celebrate. Many years ago, the Exeter Chamber team spoke to members and concluded that it was time to change up the traditional sit-down dinners that pepper the diaries of many businesses.
We knew that connecting with other members was vital. While formal dinners can be glorious (who doesn’t love dusting off a suit or gown) we knew that Exeter’s business community wanted something different for the summer. So, we created a mini festival.
The Summer Bash, as it’s come to be known, started life at Exeter Castle. Live music, street food and sundowners – oh and an ice cream van with unlimited free ice cream. More flip flops than formal gowns, the event captured the hearts of the Exeter members and has been running ever since.
For the last two years it’s been held at our awesome arts centre – Exeter Phoenix. We’ve kept the street food, the live music and added a snappy and cheerful awards ceremony recognising the city’s hidden heroes. We’ve also made the inimitable addition of DJ Steve (aka Steve Gates, chair of Exeter Chamber) who hits the decks outside at the Phoenix, transporting us back to raving in the 90s and 00s. What’s not to love? Go Exeter!
