Lucinda’s Week at One Voice

Lucinda’s Week at One Voice

Having just finished the second year of my undergraduate degree at Durham I thought it was high time I started thinking about my future career.  I am interested in PR, Marketing and events management and so I was very excited when One Voice Media offered me a week’s work experience placement this summer. Over the week I got to grips with what it means to work for a proactive, considerate PR agency who takes good care of their many clients.

My tasks ranged from administrative duties to creative writing, from meeting with clients to discuss magazine adverts to choosing a staff costume for a promotional event! One of my favourite tasks of the week was writing my first ever press release because it gave me the opportunity to broaden my creative writing skills. I was also asked to use IT skills and was challenged to sift through large quantities of information and collate that which was important into an accessible source for my colleagues.  I also found it really interesting how increasingly important use of social media is in PR, and enjoyed the work I did with twitter, Facebook and blogging.  Above all, it was wonderful to be part of such a welcoming, hardworking team, in what is a really lovely office atmosphere.

I had a great week at One Voice Media, and am definitely going to keep exploring PR as a future career option as a result of this work experience. Thank you for having me!
