Celia's One Voice experience

After finishing my A-Levels, and not being certain on a degree choice, I decided to use a year in between school and university to explore my interests further and pin-point exactly what it is I wish to pursue. I have always been attracted to the idea of working within the media industry, so I was thrilled to have the opportunity to work with One Voice.

With no previous office experience I was extremely eager to start learning, and to have the chance to work in such a busy environment. Whilst being fast-paced and eventful, there is always a friendly atmosphere in the office and I was made to feel instantly welcomed.

During my time here I’ve had the chance to get involved with many aspects of the work that One Voice do, with the team here giving me an array of tasks to undertake every day. My tasks included administrative duties, research towards future events and promotion through social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook. My favourite task has been drafting press releases, which enabled me to draw upon my creative ability.

One of the events I’ve been fortunate enough to be part of whilst being here is the preparation going into the Exeter Festival of South West Food & Drink. In the 3 weeks leading up to, and the weekend of the festival, I was largely involved with the social media aspect of promoting the festival.   From this experience I gained true understanding of how much hard work and organisation goes into preparing for such an event, which has been invaluable.

It was stimulating to be constantly surrounded by the innovative ideas that were flung around the office on a day-to-day basis. With every day being different at One Voice, I feel as though I’ve had an enlightening insight into the industry. I’ve come away feeling as though I’ve had the perfect introduction into the world of media, and in turn my time here has aided my decision to study media further at university.

Thank you for giving me such a great experience!
